Project title:
Supporting the transition of youth in care to adulthood: Perspectives of youth and their out-of-home care providers on the Milestone Program
About this project:
The transition to adulthood can be a challenging developmental period for youth involved in child welfare. They often do not have the support or resources from their families to help them as they begin to take on adult roles and responsibilities. Supportive relationships with non-parent caregivers is critical during this period to help with the transition. The Milestone Program was developed by foster parents, youth with experience in child welfare, and child welfare workers to support youths' transition to adulthood through web-based skills training. We collaborated with the developers of the the Milestone Program to evaluate the program's effectiveness. This study was conducted in collaboration with Dr. Jennine Rawana and the members of her lab at York University.
Data collection:
Eleven youth (M age = 17.2) in child welfare and their care-providers (M age = 46.8) participated in the study.
